Connect2Discover@VDMA: Hydrogen as the key to a secure + green energy supply and the performance of Power-to-X for Applications
Climate protection and energy independence are at the top of the socio-political agenda. It is necessary to achieve far-reaching climate neutrality quickly and comprehensively to protect the climate and at the same time secure independence and prosperity. In this context, Connect2Discover@VDMA looks at the topic and the performance variety of "Power-to-X for Applications".

There are still many challenges, such as the storage and distribution of energy. The main natural, renewable energy sources are either volatile - solar and wind power - or are not sufficiently available in Germany - geothermal energy, hydropower or renewable raw materials. In order to manage dark lulls, i.e. periods without renewable energy yields, solar and wind power must be stored in advance. Batteries are one way of doing this, while chemical storage is another. Gases and liquids can be produced in a climate-neutral way from hydrogen and carbon using renewable electricity and have a particularly high energy density. The corresponding technology paths are referred to as "Power-to-X" or “PtX” or “P2X” for short. At the beginning of the chain, there is always regeneratively generated electricity ("power"), from which gaseous or liquid energy carriers ("X") are then produced - from the electron to the molecule.
These chemical energy carriers also help to meet another challenge, the conversion of those sectors that can hardly be electrified directly and are heavily dependent on fossil fuels. The switch to battery-electric drives is not an all-encompassing alternative for the growing road freight transport sector, and even less so for shipping on the high seas and aviation. In these applications independence from fossil fuels can only be achieved via P2X fuels.
Within the VDMA, "Power-to-X for Applications" is the central, cross-industry information, communication and cooperation platform for the P2X community. It involves all key stakeholders and players from the development of manufacturing processes to the production of synthetic fuels using power-to-X technologies to the end user. Through its activities, it promotes a holistic and technology-open approach to the transformation of energy systems and raises public awareness of environmentally sustainable energy use and mobility.
Get an insight into the topic in this Connect2Discover@VDMA event on the one hand and learn more about how the "Power-to-X-for Applications" can support you in your concerns on the other hand.

With our digital event series Connect2Discover@VDMA we offer you a successive and continuous insight into our wide range of services and show you how you can use your association to your advantage - every 2nd Tuesday of the month, always at 2 o'clock, 2 presentations of about 30 min each - entertaining, compact, competent - click here for the overview. The target group for this event-series are all "newcomers" to VDMA and all those who would like to get to know the range of services better - members or those who are interested in a membership. Every third event is in English, for the others we offer simultaneous translation. If you would like us to inform you or your colleagues about our next Connect2Discover@VDMA-events once a month, please send us a short mail to marc.ludewig@vdma.org.
