Since the publication of the legislative proposal on March 30, 2022 for the revision and expansion of the ecodesign requirements and the establishment of a digital product passport (DPP) for products, the topic of transparency and traceability of products and materials has been present at the European level. Even though the legislative process has not yet been completed, according to the current proposal, mechanical and plant engineering will be affected both indirectly in the short term and will have direct points of contact in the medium term.
The idea of the new Ecodesign Regulation is to regulate products along their entire life cycle in terms of sustainability and circular economy. The carbon footprint of products will become an important element in the debate. Central to this is the policy's plan to establish a digital product passport that collects and passes on information on products along their entire life cycle and is thus intended to create transparency. The question for the mechanical engineering industry is whether the digital product passport, if properly designed, can be a solution to meet the challenges and requests from the market.
In addition, the VDMA is currently developing a guideline on "circular business models in mechanical and plant engineering" in cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy GmbH. This is intended to help companies identify and establish new business models under the circular economy. The first exclusive contents from the guide will be presented in the virtual event. In this way, meeting political requirements and establishing new business areas can go hand in hand.
Bring in your questions on the topic and exchange your thoughts with professional colleagues from the other member companies and with the speaker as well as speakers. We look forward to an intensive virtual exchange of experiences.
The event is aimed at specialists and executives from the fields of environment and sustainability and management.
