Machine builder field report on remote safety stop control

16x9

R3 Solutions

As the number of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots in production and logistics environments continues to grow, so does the need to further regulate the safety of their operation. To address this, the new Machinery Directive, which will come into force in 2027, includes specific safety requirements.

With the European Union's new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 coming into force on 20 January 2027, safe remote stop of AGVs/AMRs will become mandatory within the EU single market. It is therefore crucial for manufacturers to be prepared for these upcoming safety requirements.

In this web session, ServisControl s.r.o. a machine builder will share experiences in dealing with remote stop control solutions for their products, driven by end customer requirements.
The requirement came from a European automotive OEM whose internal assessment identified the need to implement a remote safety stop control for AGVs in their goods transfer zone. They required a reliable, low-latency wireless solution to ensure seamless and safe operations at all times.

Working in partnership with ServisControl and R3 Solutions, a selective, location-based wireless safety solution was implemented to provide safe, on-demand communication between AGVs and the central PLC. Using a dedicated wireless network, the setup ensures that AGVs can be individually stopped using CIPSafety as soon as they approach a handling platform using a wireless control button, ensuring zero downtime, optimal performance and a higher level of safety in the logistics process.
