The VDMA Technical Affairs Committee adopts mechanical engineering positions on technology policy and standardization policy issues. The committee uses suitable and transparent structures to formulate opinions and positions. The committee also accompanies the legislative activities relevant to mechanical engineering in Brussels and Berlin.
To this end, the Technical Affairs Committee was set up by the Executive Committee and Executive Board in July 2024 as an official specialist committee with the task of developing and adopting the official VDMA positions and representing them externally, in particular vis-à-vis political decision-makers.
The new committee replaces the Technology Policy Steering Committee and continues the previous successful work as an official VDMA committee. This will ensure the continuation of all important topics and guarantee in-depth processing of the subject areas, which also accounts for the success of the previous representation of interests. The existing working groups on technology policy topics are assigned to the new committee. There are currently working groups on the following topics:
- Machinery Directive
- Cybersecurity
- Accreditation
- Standardization
- Digital product passport
- Market surveillance (in planning)
