The supply chains in mechanical and plant engineering have grown historically and are now very complex. Both lead to long and sophisticated value chains, which makes the implementation of the new Supply Chain Sourcing Act (in short: Lieferkettenorgfaltsgesetz, LkSG) from 2023 a real challenge.
Nevertheless, mechanical and plant engineers cannot avoid it, because even if they are not directly affected from 2023 because they have too few employees, they are still indirectly affected as part of the value chains of affected companies. In this respect, it is advisable for all companies in the mechanical engineering and plant construction sectors to deal with the issue at an early stage and take the first steps towards implementation.
