Fraunhofer IAO experts from the Business Innovation Engineering Center (BIEC) have developed inspiration and reflection cards for developing a leadership and organizational culture that promotes innovation. Participants learn how these can be used in everyday business life.

Small and medium-sized companies today find themselves in a very dynamic environment. In order to remain successful on the market, management culture and organizational framework conditions must be designed in such a way that they promote the creativity and willingness to innovate of all employees in SMEs. In order to exploit the potential for innovation and strengthen competitiveness, practical impulses and approaches are needed to focus the management culture on the profit-critical day-to-day and routine business and at the same time on renewal, creativity and innovation.

while many instruments for innovation management are available in large companies and are often assigned to professional task managers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face particular challenges when it comes to innovative capacity.

for example, they rarely have a coordinated or explicit innovation strategy in addition to their business strategy. The organizational structure is often function- or department-oriented. The process organization is often unsuitable for handling profitable day-to-day business in routine processes and also for developing future services in innovation processes. SMEs are often characterized by a rather rigid management culture that is not flexible enough to allow experiments or to quickly turn ideas into innovations. This is often compounded by limited financial resources and scarce personnel capacities, which can result in little room for creativity and innovation in day-to-day business.

based on a broad background of experience, the Fraunhofer IAO has developed impulse and reflection cards for the development of a management and organizational culture that promotes innovation.

In addition to day-to-day business, the aim is to provide SMEs with reflection and impetus to focus their organizational framework conditions and management culture more strongly on creativity, innovation and sustainability.

during the event, excerpts from the card set will be presented and used as examples. In addition, small and medium-sized companies will present how they have geared their management culture towards innovation and how they have achieved market-ready innovations, such as innovative digital services or new digital business models, alongside their profitable day-to-day business.

The event is aimed at owners, managing directors and managers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
