The Advocacy Committee last met on November 25, 2024, together with the Business Development Committee at the VDMA's capital city office in Berlin. The central topic of the meeting was accessibility through elevators - mobility for all.
The discussion, which was also attended by representatives of the Social Welfare Association, the Ministry of Construction and the Bundestag, revolved around key demands that can sustainably promote accessibility in Germany.
The installation of elevators in new buildings increases accessibility and ensures long-term usability for all generations. In view of demographic change, early integration makes economic and social sense. Standardization of the 16 state building regulations: Uniform standards are necessary to create clarity in requirements.
Retrofitting existing buildings: Over 60% of residential buildings were built before 1978. Barrier-free retrofitting offers great potential for inclusion and participation.
Accessibility at train stations: All platforms must be accessible via elevators, supplemented by transparent information on the availability of the facilities.
Political guests were Anieke Fimmen from SoVD - Sozialverband Deutschland e.V., Stephan Bull from the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction and Wilfried Oellers from the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag.
If you would like to actively participate in these or other exciting topics, you are cordially invited to attend our next meeting in 2025. The next date will be announced in good time.
